From the desk of Principal Mike Wells...

Munster High School boasts a strong academic program with 20 Advanced Placement courses and 31 concurrent enrollment courses. During the 2013-14 school year, MHS administered 1006 Advanced Placement exams. This proved to be nearly a 40% increase in tests administered from the previous year.

Recently, Munster High School was ranked #3 in the state and #303 in the nation, according to The Daily Beast. The qualifications for this status was based on the following categories:

1. Graduation Rate
2. College-bound students
3. Average ACT/SAT scores
4. Rigor (AP courses taken)
5. Free and reduced lunch

Along with a strong tradition of academic excellence, MHS offers outstanding extra-curricular and co-curricular activities. Thirty-seven academic and curricular clubs are available for the far-reaching interests of our student population. Some of our more successful programs include Speech and Debate, Science Olympiad, DECA, the Robotics team, and the Dance team. These programs all won state championships last year. In addition to the state championships, Science Olympiad finished fifteenth in the nation, and the Speech team finished in the top ten in the nation.

Last year our Best Buddies chapter partnered with MHS athletes and Student Government to become a Champions Together School, one of only twenty in the state. Our school gained valued insight on respect and perseverance through this program. We look forward to renewing this partnership in the 2014-15 school year.

Our faculty and staff work tirelessly and are always looking to improve their pedagogy, coaching, and selves. We are fortunate to have so many adults committed to the success of all our students. If you would like to become more involved with the school, we invite you to join our PTO, the Booster Club, and/or the Principal’s Advisory Team. Please email mpwells@munster.us or call 836-3200 if you are interested in joining these organizations.

We look forward to another successful school year as we watch our students achieve excellence!
