FAQ

Question: 

How are teachers providing additional supports for student learning via eLearning platform? 

Answer: 

In light of using the eLearning platform, teachers are being flexible with due dates for assignments. 


Question: 

What guidelines will be used when providing 4th quarter grades for students in kindergarten-12th grade?   

Answer: 

The following:

  • All student work is expected to be completed for 4th quarter.

  • Final 4th quarter grades will based on collection of participation/work submitted by students.


Question:  

What happens if my child cannot/does not participate in or complete assigned work?

Answer:  

Parents will need to communicate with the Principal/Teacher in situations where a student may be experiencing extenuating circumstances impacting completion of work.

    • In situations where students do not show effort to complete assignments and/or there has been no communication from the parent- the final grade may be impacted.

    • Concerns about final grades should be addressed with Principal/Teacher.

 

Question:

How are elementary 4th quarter grades being calculated?

Answer:

All elementary grades will weighted the same.  All grades are being entered as classwork. There will be no grades entered as assessment grades during 4th quarter. 


Question:

When must all work be turned in to be considered in the calculation of 4th quarter grade?

Answer:

For all students in K-12th grades:

  • Any 4th quarter work assigned prior to May 22, 2020 will be due by 11: 00 p.m. on May 22, 2020. 

  • Any assignment given after May 22, 2020 will be due by 3:00 p.m. on May 29,2020 unless otherwise noted by the classroom teacher.

How will final exams be handled at the high school?

Question: Will final exam weights be changed for high school courses?

Answer: Final exam weights will remain unchanged for high school course.


Question: 

Will the middle school have finals? 

Answer: 

The middle school will not schedule a regular final exam week. 

However, some courses will give final exams lasting no more than 30 minutes. Information regarding finals can be provided by individual teachers.

What if I have additional questions regarding grading practices?

Answer:

If you have individual questions, please consult your child’s teacher and/or principal.



When will Kindergarten registration residency appointments take place? 

Kindergarten Registration residency appointments have been canceled and will be rescheduled.  Kindergarten Assessment dates will be determined at a later date, and elementary schools will call parents to schedule.


What is the last day of school?

Friday May 29th.


What days will eLearning occur?

eLearning will occur on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. eLearning will not occur on Wednesdays. No eLearning will occur on previously scheduled days off, Monday May 4th, Tuesday May 5th, and Monday May 25th. 


Will students have to make up these days missed at the end of the school year?

No. With the School Town of Munster eLearning plan, the school corporation will fulfill the minimum requirement of instructional days per the Governor's order. https://calendar.in.gov/site/gov/event/gov-holcomb-announces-new-steps-to-protect-public-from-covid-19/


Will MHS Prom still be held on 4/25?

Prom is cancelled for this school year. 


Are teachers available to answer academic questions during this time off?

Yes.  Teachers will communicate their availability to parents and students.  On eLearning days, teachers will be available 9a-11a and 1pm-3pm. Email addresses can be found on each school’s webpage. Teachers are available on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays of eLearning days. 


IREAD and ILEARN Assessments

The Indiana Department of Education and Gov. Holcomb’s office have canceled the IREAD, ILEARN, ISTEP+ 10, and I AM assessments.

Will Central Office be open for regular business during this closure?

In an effort to mitigate the spread of COVID-19, Central Office will not be open to the public while schools are closed. What if my student doesn’t have home Wi-Fi access?

If Comcast is your local service provider, effective Monday, March 16, Comcast has announced it is offering two months free to new Internet Essentials customers in response to recent and anticipated emergency measures associated with COVID-19. Click here for more details.  If you are having difficulties obtaining service, please contact your child’s principal.


What if my student’s laptop is not working properly while schools are closed?

Families should contact the STM Helpdesk by emailing support@student.munster.us or call 219-836-7157

 


Will Munster Schools continue to host/attend events? 

At this time, all scheduled events have been canceled until further notice.

 

Will athletics/extra-curricular practices continue while schools are closed?

All activities held at Munster school facilities are canceled until further notice.


Will the Elementary School PTOs still put on the Mustang Stampede 5k run and walk? 

We will not be holding the Mustang Stampede at this time. Due to our school closings and respect for our amazing sponsors, we must place all of our efforts into supporting our individual school communities during this time of uncertainty.  Our PTO efforts will be focused on helping our schools, staff, community and most importantly our children through the time remaining of our school year.


Should I practice social distancing?

Will the ACT still take place at Munster High School on April 4?

Since the building will still be closed on April 4, the ACT test is canceled for this day.  


How will AP Tests be impacted?

What are the plans for MHS Graduation?

More information will be provided regarding graduation and Commencement Exercises.


What are the plans for summer school?

The district is waiting for further guidance from the Indiana Department of Education before summer school programs are announced.

How will my child’s attendance be taken?

Please refer to the School Town of Munster eLearning plan for details for elementary (grades K-5) and secondary (grades 6-12) procedures. 


My child has materials and personal items at school.  When can we pick them up?

Teachers/staff members are cleaning out classrooms and lockers now.  Each building will contact parents regarding a pick up system in the future.
