ILEARN Summative

What is the ILEARN Summative Assessment?

The Indiana Learning Evaluation Assessment Readiness Network (ILEARN) is Indiana's statewide summative assessment required by both state and federal law. It measures student achievement and academic growth based on the Indiana Academic Standards.

Students participate in ILEARN assessments in the following subjects and grade levels:

  • English/Language Arts: Grades 3–8
  • Mathematics: Grades 3–8
  • Science: Grades 4 and 6
  • Social Studies: Grade 5
  • Biology: High school

At the School Town of Munster, ILEARN is one of several measures used to evaluate student learning and academic progress. Along with classroom assessments and other data, ILEARN results help teachers, schools, and the district identify student strengths, guide instructional decisions, and support continuous improvement.

Where can I view the types of questions that can be found on ILEARN?

Resources to help students prepare for and understand test results can be found on the ILEARN Students and Families website.

Students and families can become familiar with the testing system and types of questions on ILEARN by clicking on the Released Items Repository Site in the "Preparing for Testing" section.

Can parents request an ILEARN rescore?

Yes. In accordance with Indiana Code 20-32-5.1-13, parents and schools must be given the opportunity to review and request a rescore of eligible open-ended (constructed-response) items on the ILEARN assessment.

Parents interested in requesting a rescore should contact their child's school to schedule an in-person appointment. During the review session, parents may view their student's responses to eligible open-ended items, along with the corresponding scoring rubrics and sample responses, to determine whether they would like to request a rescore. There is no online parent portal for this process, and state assessment security requirements prohibit remote or virtual review of secure test content.

Before viewing any assessment materials, parents or guardians must sign and date a Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA). All ILEARN test content—including passages, questions, student responses, and scoring rubrics—is secure and may not be discussed, copied, photographed, shared, distributed, or duplicated in any way.

Student responses to eligible open-ended items are available only during the state's designated rescore request window. Once the window closes, responses are no longer accessible because secure test items remain in the assessment item pool for possible future use.

If a parent chooses to request a rescore, the school principal (or designee) will submit the request through the state's online assessment system on the parent's behalf.

Please note:

  • A rescore request may be submitted only once for each eligible item.
  • Once submitted, a rescore request cannot be withdrawn or reversed.
  • After a request is submitted, the student's response will no longer be available for review.
  • A rescore may result in the student's score increasing, decreasing, or remaining unchanged.
