Human Sexuality Curriculum

Indiana law (IC 20-19-3-11) requires schools to provide age-appropriate instruction focused on student safety and abuse prevention. Fair Haven uses Child Safety Matters, an evidence-based prevention education program developed by the Monique Burr Foundation, to support schools in meeting this requirement.

Through this program, students in grades K–5 receive developmentally appropriate lessons on recognizing unsafe situations, understanding personal safety, seeking help from trusted adults, and practicing strategies to stay safe. Instruction includes bullying, cyberbullying, digital safety, and awareness of different forms of abuse, all presented in a sensitive and age-appropriate manner.

Child Safety Matters is supported by independent research and approved by the Indiana Department of Education and the Indiana Prevention Education Coalition.

Schools provide an opt out form to all parents/guardians with students in grades K-5.   click here to access the opt out form

Schools provide an opt out form to all parents/guardians of 4th grade students about a month before the presentation. The gender appropriate videos focus on the changes that students will experience as they grow through puberty, as well as a discussion on hygiene. Students will be given the opportunity to ask questions after viewing the film. The girls and boys will be separated for the video presentation and Q&A session.
